Armageddon West

It may not be as sexy as Red Sox/Yankees and won't get as much publicity. But let's not discount how big this series is between the Dodgers and Giants.

The Dodgers have dipped under .600 for the first time in a while and the Giants are creeping closer to LA.

They are 5 1/2 games back of the Dodgers. They haven't been that close since May 14 (my birthday.)

Of course the Giants need to worry about the Rockies as the two are currently tied for the Wild Card. But if the Giants win today, they have a great shot to win the series with Lincecum throwing the finale on Wednesday afternoon.

And if the Giants win this series, they will leave LA trailing only by 4 1/2 games with a month and a half left to play.

Hardly insurmountable.

And imagine a sweep (and I know you are, Dad.) Imagine the Giants trailing only by 2 1/2 games.

Then again a Dodgers sweep could mean an 8 1/2 game lead for LA, but let's not think about that!

Let the games play.
